-The Vanguard article falsely quoted Atiku as commending Nnamdi Kanu for leading a formidable agitation where others had failed

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has threatened to take legal action against Vanguard newspaper, over a false publication related to the agitation for secession led by leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
In separate posts on his Twitter handle and Facebook page, Atiku alerted the public that the story put up by Vanguard was false, even as he notified the media house of the actions he would be taking against them.
On his Facebook page, the former Vice President stated: “A false story published by Vanguard newspaper has been brought to my notice. In the story, the paper quoted false comments about the Biafra crisis and attributed it to me.
“I have already instructed my lawyers to write to the news organization. It's time, #FakeNews is decisively dealt with.”
The posts on the twitter handle of the Atiku Media Office, @AtikuOrg, read:
The media house had claimed that Atiku stated that whether Nigerians hate or loathe Kanu, the IPOB leader has fought well.
They falsely quoted the former Vice President as saying: “In three years he (Kanu) made the hitherto unfashionable and impossible thing central to our national politics.
“Elrufai was in London yesterday talking restructuring.
“They fought in Ondo in a meeting on restructuring, there is a Yoruba declaration.
“Northern elders are shifting ground while pretending to grandstand.
“You don’t have to agree with his style, I also don’t, but you must be one pretentious clown if you don’t acknowledge that Nnamdi Kanu, loathe or love him, has achieved what all those people and organizations have been fighting for over 35 years without success.
“He did it in three years.
“The mass movement he inspired became a huge threat to the establishment. They had to take him out.”
While the false article has now been taken down by the media organization, NAIJ.com was able to obtain a screenshot of it.
